Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

media_imgHave you been searching for a non-surgical solution for your orthopedic injury or condition?

Many acute and chronic injuries can be healed by a revolutionary procedure called platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP therapy.

This regenerative treatment uses the body’s own blood cells to stimulate the natural healing process for a number of bone, muscle, and joint conditions. With advanced training in PRP therapy, Dr. Sammy Masri is one of northeast New Jersey’s foremost experts in this exciting regenerative therapy procedure.

How does PRP therapy work?

When you injure a ligament or tendon, your body immediately sends platelet cells to the site of the injury. These cells contain healing and growth factors that attract stem cells to the injured tissue and initiate the repair process.

But this process can be slow or interrupted if the injury is not given time to heal and the damage worsens. With PRP therapy, we help the body jump start and accelerate the natural healing process by injecting millions of your own platelet cells into and around the point of injury. To obtain the concentrated platelet-rich plasma, we take a sample of your own blood and spin it in our special lab equipment to separate the platelets from the other components of blood.

Many people experience significant relief after only one injection. The healing process is gradual; you will likely begin to notice improvement within a few weeks. If necessary, we can administer up to 3 injections within 6 months.

What are the benefits of PRP therapy?

  • There is no incision, no surgery, and no downtime. PRP therapy can be performed in our offices as a quick outpatient procedure.
  • PRP therapy relieves pain and promotes long-lasting healing.
  • It may eliminate the need for surgery if the injury is diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.
  • Injuries heal faster than with surgery.
  • Because you receive your own blood cells, there is no risk of a transmissible infection or risk of your body rejecting the cells.

What injuries or conditions does PRP therapy treat?

  • Partial ligament and tendon tears
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Rotator cuff injuries of the shoulder
  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in the knee
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfer’s elbow
  • Tendonitis
  • Strains and sprains
  • Osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, shoulder, and spine
